There is a pandemic unfolding amongst God’s people, well, not just unfolding, it’s spreading like wildfire through His house, claiming countless unwitting souls. It’s a plague upon His house, and yet it is one that you and I can so easily deal with in our lives.

Those of us who call ourselves Christians love to sing songs like “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end”. And that’s great, unless we get to imagining somehow that we can think, say or do anything we like, and there won’t be any consequences. The steadfast love of the Lord will still flow in our lives.

But that’s simply not what God’s Word says. Listen up:

Psalm 103:17,18 But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments. (ESV)

For whom is the steadfast love of the Lord from everlasting to everlasting? Answer, for those who fear him, who honour him, who keep his commandments. For those who repent, who turn from their wicked ways and serve Him and Him alone. And the flip side of that psalm is that if you’re not one of those people, then it ain’t for you.

It’s a harsh warning, but an important one. If your walk with the Lord kicked off with a nice little salvation prayer, then that’s absolutely fine. But that was just the starting line. There is a race to be run. And that race involves repentance, it involves fearing and honouring God, it involves putting Him first above everyone and everything else in your life. Remember …

The steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
