2 Peter 3:3,4 It is important for you to understand what will happen in the last days. People will laugh at you. They will live following the evil they want to do. They will say, “Jesus promised to come again. Where is he? Our fathers have died, but the world continues the way it has been since it was made.”

Do you ever get sick and tired of watching, listening to, reading ‘the news’? I do. The more you stand back from it, the more it just looks and sounds like a bunch of ill-tempered people arguing and behaving badly – extremely badly.

Perhaps that’s a tad pessimistic … and yes, of course we should keep up with what’s going on in the world. But the news seems to have descended into a cacophony of criticism.

And then there’s really the crazy stuff: Schools banning words like “mother” and “father” because they’re gender-offensive. Men dressed as women competing in female sports and winning. People applauding laws that allow children to be torn from their mothers’ wombs en masse.

And should anyone dare to stand up and point out that this is indeed crazy stuff, people want to tear them down, silence them. But should we be at all surprised?

2 Peter 3:3,4 It is important for you to understand what will happen in the last days. People will laugh at you. They will live following the evil they want to do. They will say, “Jesus promised to come again. Where is he? Our fathers have died, but the world continues the way it has been since it was made.”

That was written two thousand years ago. Nothing’s changed. Twentieth century philosopher and theologian GK Chesterton put it like this: Every high civilisation decays by forgetting obvious things. And that’s exactly what’s happening.

Do you believe in Jesus? Then don’t be part of that decay. Don’t forget the obvious things. We’re all sinners. Jesus died so that we could be forgiven, and He rose so our lives could be transformed. Oh … and one day, perhaps sooner than we think, He’s coming back.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
