Matthew 6:24 You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money at the same time.

It’s a sad fact that so many people who say that they believe in Jesus, are in fact missing out on all that he wants to bless them with. Why? Well, because they’re living their lives like a dog with two masters.

Many of us live in cultures where worshipping wealth is the norm. We’re mercilessly bombarded with advertising that rampantly promotes conspicuous consumption. Even governments, keen to grow their economies through consumer spending, reinforce this mantra of “spend up big”.

And as a result, many, many people become slaves to this stupidity. Working harder and longer to achieve material success in this world. Wealth becomes an object of desire, an idol, a false god. And when you get to that point, the point of desiring more and more, the point when enough is never enough, you find yourself on a treadmill that exhausts you and eventually, destroys you.

Of course, there’s nothing new in any of that. This isn’t just a 21st century phenomenon. Way back in the first century AD, Jesus hit the nail on the head, when He said:

Matthew 6:24 You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money at the same time.

In other words, it’s like being a dog with two masters. One says sit, while the other says go. Which one do you obey? Well, at that point, you have a choice to make. You’ll either obey the one and ignore the other, or vice-versa.

I’ve met so many people trying to serve both God and their desire for wealth. But it just doesn’t work. If you keep on going like that, eventually, you have to choose; one way or the other.

Which way will you choose? Seriously.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
