1 Peter 4:10,11 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ.

One of the things I love to do is to hold up a mirror to people and help them to see the incredible gifts and abilities they have. Because frankly, most people don’t think that their gifts are anything special. But to the rest of us … man, your gifts, your abilities are mind-blowingly amazing! Seriously.

When you look at someone who’s really talented – a great muso or an artist or elite sports person – how do you explain that? Are they someone who’s been gifted by God to excel in that way or just a random but talented collection of atoms?

Some years ago I was listening to an Irish singer by the name of Brian Houston (no relation to the Hillsong one). He had black spiky hair, a black leather jacket and torn jeans as I recall … but could this boy make music with his guitar and mouth organ … oh and what a voice! Not to mention the fact that he wrote all his own songs.

So how do you explain that? The theory of evolution (and scientifically, that’s all it is – a theory) says that Brian is a distant descendant of some amoebic green slime that inexplicably came to life millions of years ago.

God, on the other hand, tells us that we’ve been created by Him, each one of us handcrafted in His image. I don’t know … which one of those two explanations sounds more plausible to you?

Your abilities are God’s gift not just to you but to the rest of us through you. Please don’t keep them to yourself!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
