When you feel as though no one appreciates you or understands you, when life’s really getting you down, how do you deal with that? How do you get on top of it?

Let’s be honest, some days life just stinks. Nothing seems to be going right. You had an argument even before you left home this morning. And look at all the work that’s piling up on your desk. And then there’s that idiot boss of yours.

I’m sure you’ve had days like that. So, you want to grumble and complain and wallow in negativity, the way a pig wallows in mud. But hang on a minute:

Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Just … stop and let that sink in. The sun’s still shining, you’re still breathing. This is the day that the Lord has made. And as much as you may want to grumble, the one thing that’ll make your spirit soar, is rejoicing and being glad in it.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me life today. Thank you, Lord, for that soft, warm, safe bed that I slept in last night and for the food in my belly. Thank you, Lord, that I have the opportunity today, to show some love to the one who I argued with this morning, and even that difficult boss of mine. Thank you, Lord, that your Holy Spirit is here with me right now to encourage me and strengthen me and give me the patience to get through.

Now it may not come naturally to begin with. It may not even make sense. But, can I tell you? It works.

This is the day that the Lord has made; rejoice and be glad in it.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
