1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Over 60% of new songs written in the past year have been about love. That’s great. So why is it then, pray tell, that there seems to be so much lovelessness in this world today? Why is that exactly?

I want you to imagine for a moment a world without love. Just think about that … a world completely devoid of love. What would that look like? Well, sadly, you and I don’t have to do too much imagining. We don’t have to look all that far from home to see what a loveless world really looks like.

There are wars, there’s conflict at the political level, there’s conflict in our own lives. And most people these days seem always to be asking themselves “What’s in it for me?” That makes for rather a lot of lovelessness.

Some of the smartest people I’ve known have been completely unbearable, because without love their brilliance is worthless.

So when you head out the door each morning to go do whatever it is that you do, which question are you asking yourself?

“What’s in it for me? … or … What can I do for others today?”

Which attitude you choose has a lot to do with how much love there’s going to be in your little corner of the world.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
