Hebrews 4:12 God's word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God's word cuts to the centre of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.

If I asked you to choose three words, just three, to describe how you feel about this thing they call, “the Bible”, what would they be?

For many people, even those who say they believe in Jesus, the Bible is uncharted territory. It’s a turn off. A fuddy-duddy, dusty old textbook. For starters, it’s so big: 775,000 words, in 31,173 verses, in 1,189 chapters in 66 books. There’s even a genealogy in the Old Testament, 1 Chronicles, that runs for nine chapters!? Really?! Who has the time these days? And yet …

Hebrews 4:12 God’s word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God’s word cuts to the centre of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.

The Bible isn’t some dusty old textbook. It’s the living Word of the living God and He means to speak life, as Jesus put it, abundant life, into your heart through His Word.

And hey, did you know that you can read over half the books in the Bible in less than half an hour?

I used to have such a negative view of this thing called the Bible. And yet, when finally one day I opened it up – what I found was, well … words don’t usually fail me … but words fail me.

It’s alive. It’s real. This isn’t some pitch. This isn’t spin. For a few decades, most days – not every day, but most – I’ve read some small part. And God just talks to me. He does.

It changes your life. Because when God speaks, things happen. The Bible. Pick it up.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
