1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Eliab is tall and handsome, but don’t judge by things like that. God doesn’t look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart. Eliab is not the right man.”

Can I ask you today, how do you feel about the way you look? What’s your sense of your body-image? Are you happy with it, or do you, like many others, worry about it, even detest it?

These days, body-image seems to be everything and people who aren’t happy with how they look, often lead very sad lives. The world seems to have set up an image of what beauty looks like, and if you don’t fit that image, you’re tossed on the scrapheap.

For most of my life I was grossly overweight, and I hated seeing myself in the mirror, or worse still, in a photo or video. Yich!!!

These days I’m down to a normal weight, and I’m not saying that we shouldn’t get that right – it comes down to our health and wellbeing. But I know so many normal, everyday people who are fixated on their body-image.

Women of a healthy weight, who fret over a pound here or there; people who think they aren’t as good looking as the next person … as though somehow, we all have to be perfect, plastic specimens like the models in the TV and magazine ads.

So what’s the answer? Quite simply this: God doesn’t give two hoots about how you look. What really matters to Him, is what’s going on in your heart.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Eliab is tall and handsome, but don’t judge by things like that. God doesn’t look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart. Eliab is not the right man.”

Body image? Come on. Get a grip! That’s not what matters to God. What matters to Him, is what’s going on in your heart.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
