Matthew 9:2 Some people brought to him a man who was paralysed and was lying on a mat. Jesus saw that these people had much faith. So, he said to the paralysed man, "Young man, you will be glad to hear this. Your sins are forgiven."

As you look back on this past year, I’m sure there are some things that you would have done differently. None of us has had an absolutely perfect year and yep, with the benefit of hindsight, sure, there are some things we regret doing. Things that, given the chance to do over again, we’d do differently.

But as this new year heads your way, how much of that regret is still living on in your heart? To put it bluntly, how much regret are you planning on carrying forward into the new year? Are you going to allow it to hang over your future like a dark cloud?

The reason I’m asking, is that I don’t think Jesus wants you heading off into next year wallowing in the regret of the past. In fact, I know absolutely, that that’s not what He wants for you.

You know what they say – don’t cry over spilt milk. There’s a reason for that. It’s because you can’t un-spill the milk. Sure, you can clean it up. You can apologise if it hurt someone. You can even learn a lesson or two that’ll stop you from doing it again. But you can’t un–spill the milk. You can never get it back. It doesn’t matter how bad you feel about it; how hard you work at it or how much you wish you could do it.

That’s why forgiveness is such a big deal for God.

Some people brought to him a man who was paralysed and was lying on a mat. Jesus saw that these people had much faith. So, he said to the paralysed man, “Young man, you will be glad to hear this. Your sins are forgiven.” (Matthew 9:2)

God doesn’t want you to be paralysed by the regret of your past. Today, through His Word, Jesus is reaching out to you. He’s touching you. He’s sharing the good news with you.

You will be glad to hear this. Your sins are forgiven.

So, as you step into this new year, you need carry no guilt, no regret from the past with you. Because Jesus has cleaned up the mess, to the point, where it’s as though it never happened in the first place. And in doing that, He’s also brought complete healing for you, just as He did for that young man.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
