1 Peter 4:12,13 My friends, don’t be surprised at the painful things that you are now suffering, which are testing your faith. Don’t think that something strange is happening to you. But you should be happy that you are sharing in Christ’s sufferings. You will be happy and full of joy when Christ shows his glory.

It truly amazes me, although it really shouldn’t because I used to think this way, that people who look at Christianity from the outside in see it as a kind of a “rules and rituals” thing, rather than something that makes a powerful difference in your life.

People have asked me, “Why did you call your website christianityworks.com? Does it mean that Christianity is about your works, what you do – that somehow you have to work and work and work your way into God’s favour?”

No, that’s not what it means because when you believe in Jesus, when you put your complete trust in Him, in the price He paid for your sin upon that Cross, then God’s favour and forgiveness are free. It’s called grace. Amazing!

“So – what does it mean?”

Well, I figure that if we’re going to believe in Jesus, then it has to work. It has to make a difference in our lives – a good difference, not a bad difference. Christianity has to work in the good times and the bad. Take this, written as it was to Christians who were suffering terribly at the time:

1 Peter 4:12,13 My friends, don’t be surprised at the painful things that you are now suffering, which are testing your faith. Don’t think that something strange is happening to you. But you should be happy that you are sharing in Christ’s sufferings. You will be happy and full of joy when Christ shows his glory.

And oddly, I’ve discovered that this Christianity thing actually does work. On some of the darkest days of my life, on days when I was suffering, God showed up and gave me the confidence in Him to make it through. God showed up and filled my heart full of joy in the midst of my sorrow.

Take it from me: Christianity works (dot com)!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Your daily Word is truly a lifeline for me. After the sudden death of our son, 24, in Dec 2020, I have felt distant from God. In a spiritual limbo, unable to feel eager to read the Word. So I hold onto the truth that comes to my inbox every day. God bless your ministry.
