1 Corinthians 15:54 So this body that ruins will clothe itself with that which never ruins. And this body that dies will clothe itself with that which never dies. When this happens, the Scriptures will be made true: "Death is swallowed in victory."

The thing that so often hits me about Jesus hanging there on the Cross, is what happened to His body. We sing songs about the old rugged cross, but … His blood actually soaked into the wood that He was nailed to. His blood dripped onto the ground. And when He was stabbed in the side with a spear to see if He was dead, it poured out onto the ground.

His body was beaten, battered and bruised. Nails tore through the flesh of His hands and His feet. In fact, when Jesus had risen from the dead, his new, resurrection body still bore the scars.

So … how’s your body? A few aches and pains here and there? A few creaks and groans perhaps?

Mine is fit and healthy, but you know, approaching sixty, things don’t work quite as well as they used to. And I’m sure as I get older, little by little, my body will age and deteriorate, as will yours.

But no matter how bad it gets – and one day of course this body of ours will give up the ghost – no matter how bad it gets, what Jesus did for us on that Cross, will buy us … a new body.

So this body that ruins will clothe itself with that which never ruins. And this body that dies will clothe itself with that which never dies. When this happens, the Scriptures will be made true: “Death is swallowed in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)

Have you ever thought about that? A resurrection body. A body that will never get sick. It’ll never deteriorate. And it’ll never die. That’s the promise from God. That’s what Jesus purchased for you and me on that Cross.

I was sick recently with a gut infection and it knocked me flat on my back. Everything on my schedule – and my diary is pretty full I have to tell you – became irrelevant. I felt awful. Some people suffer with chronic illness for decades.

But one day, if you believe in Jesus, you will receive a resurrection body, just as Jesus did. It may have the odd scar here and there, but it’ll last you an eternity. That’s the promise, that’s the certain hope you have, if you believe in Jesus.

An eternity without a single cold, ache, or pain. Wow!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

The translation I use on Fresh Felix is the ERV … the Easy to Read Version from Ninle League. It’s nit quite as literal as the NRSV but its language is very accessible for most people. 🙂
