Luke 6:38 Give to others, and you will receive. You will be given much. It will be poured into your hands-more than you can hold. You will be given so much that it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you."

Have you ever felt led to give something away, to be generous to that person over there? But something, something was holding you back.

It’s great being around generous people, isn’t it? But as much as we love being the beneficiaries of someone else’s generosity, when the shoe’s on the other foot, we can be a bit tight with our cash.

And the reason we hold back is that we think it’s a zero-sum game. If I take this money out of my pocket and give it to that person, they’ll have more and I’ll have less. What we forget is that God blesses generosity. What we forget is that with God’s blessing in play, generosity anything but, a zero-sum game.

Luke 6:38 Give to others, and you will receive. You will be given much. It will be poured into your hands-more than you can hold. You will be given so much that it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.”

I’m sure we can both see how incredibly generous God’s been to us. No matter how little we may appear to have, actually He’s given each one of us so much. And He wants us to be generous with the blessings He’s showered on us.

Generosity, at least the sort that Jesus talks about, is meant to go around, it’s meant to overflow, like a river of blessing in flood. And here’s the thing: when we let go, when we stop holding onto the blessing, when we give away what God has given us, generously and sacrificially, God will bless us again and again. Listen:

The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Sydney, that is certainly what we believe too. I do not subscribe to the so-called “prosperity gospel”. The Word of God is clear – God loves a cheerful giver and we are called to be generous (Ex 25:1,2, Ex 35:4-6, 2 Cor 8 … etc, etc) Bt God is not a slot machine. He does bless generosity and we should always give as we are led. In a short message like this, I can’t cover everything though. The aim of this one was simply to focus on what the Lord said in this instance. Blessings, Berni

Dear Bernie & team,

Thank you for your word today, however I feel I ought to raise a concern I have for this particular word. The implication seems to be that one ought to be giving with a personal generosity in order to be in a position of receiving ever more. My concern is that the giving ought to be done only in line with His will. Otherwise, as Jesus said to the people who carried out various acts – GO AWAY I DO NOT KNOW YOU BECAUSE YOU DID NOT DO THE WILL OF MY FATHER IN HEAVEN.
I sought the Lord on this some time ago and after some months, He said, I SEE THE HEART !
