Psalm 139:13,14 You formed the way I think and feel. You put me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because you made me in such a wonderful way. I know how amazing that was!

One of the things we’re prone to do from time to time, is to compare ourselves to other people. And more often than not, that comparison leads us to the conclusion that we’re just not as good as they are.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and decided that you just aren’t happy with who you are?

If only I were taller than what I am! If only I could do this … or that. If only I could be like that person over there!

I was in India recently and saw an advertisement on a van promising to make you taller, guaranteed, or your money back. Oh! Give me a break!! We are who we are. Sure, we can learn new things, we can stretch ourselves, we can grow in wisdom and maturity – but no amount of stretching is going to make you inches taller, right? There’s a reason for that.

Here is a psalmist praying to God about who God made him to be:

Psalm 139:13,14 You formed the way I think and feel. You put me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because you made me in such a wonderful way. I know how amazing that was!

Those couple of beautiful verses contain a wondrous truth. Who you are, how you’ve been made, from the inside out, is the sovereign choice of God Himself. He chose your height, your eye colour, your hair colour, your skin colour, your gifts, your abilities, your limitations even. All of those things are His choice and His precious gift to you.

So, do yourself a favour. Go look in the mirror again today. Forget the people around you, what they look like, what they’re capable of.

Just look at yourself in the mirror and say, “Thank you Lord for making me, me.”

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
