Matthew 27:20-22 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed. The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” Pilate said to them, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” All of them said, “Let him be crucified!”

They talk a lot, these Christians, about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Great. But why is it good news, exactly? Why should any of us take any notice whatsoever of yet another re-enactment of the Easter ritual?

Over the years, we’ve had a real fascination with police dramas on television. They kind of satisfy our need for excitement, intrigue … and I think, our sense of justice. The bad guy gets caught, sentenced and justice is done.

But I recently watched an episode where the bad guy got away. That’s wrong! Justice should have been done to tie the episode in a nice, neat little bow.

We hate injustice – but actually, Easter is all about injustice. The historical record shows that Pontius Pilot, the Roman Governor in Jerusalem at the time, decided that there was absolutely no reason to convict, let alone execute, Jesus.

Of the guilty criminal, a terrorist and murderer, the mob shouted, “Free him”, and of Jesus the innocent one, they shouted, “Crucify Him”.

The mob prevailed. After six unfair trials in less than seventeen hours – one of those trials by an angry mob – Jesus was beaten, spat upon and crucified.

It was so unjust, so unfair. Yet strangely, God used that injustice to satisfy His requirement of justice so that you and I, like the guilty Barabbas, could walk free.

Easter is so unfair. God calls it grace. Jesus.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thanks again for this message of the unbelievable truth of the Easter Season !
Jesus Christ Son Of God ! I ask myself ! Would we have been persuaded by the chief priests among that worldly crowd that day asking for Barabbas to be released and to Crucify Jesus ! . Or would we be among that minority who could see that Jesus had done no wrong ! It always seems easier to go with the crowd , But if we have the courage to stand up for the truth , that He was God’s own Son , Jesus Christ ! And that We will be with Him one day !. ( NIV John chapter 19 verse 12 . Pilate tries to set Jesus free, )
Keep us in this faith and hope I pray ! Amen 🙏 .
Thanks Henry Davies.
