Trust in God. We all know that we should. If you’ve ever opened a Bible, you’ll hear God say it over and over and over again. Trust in Me. But trusting in Him should never be an excuse for sloppiness.

Over many years in ministry, I’ve employed a good many people. Some have been great, but too many were lazy. “Well, it’s a Christian ministry. It’s all about love, so I don’t have to work hard.”

So, over the years I’ve developed a little speech for all new employees. I tell them that I expect them to make mistakes. We all do. That’s fine. We pick ourselves up, no blame games, we learn, we move on. But … there are three things that I won’t tolerate – a bad attitude, dishonesty and laziness.

Now, laziness is all too common among Christians. “Well, I trust God, He’ll handle it, so I can take my foot off the pedal. I don’t really need to plan ahead, that’s His job, right?” Not so much.

Proverbs 2:10-12 You will gain wisdom, and knowledge will bring you joy. Planning ahead will protect you, and understanding will guard you. These will keep you from following the wrong path and will protect you from those who have evil plans.

When you live life with diligence and decency, you’ll gain wisdom. You’ll learn stuff, and that’ll bring you joy. But look at this next bit: planning ahead will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

So God expects us, under Him, to have a plan. Why? Because wisdom, knowledge, planning and understanding will keep us from following the wrong path. They’ll protect us from those who have evil plans.

So … don’t be lazy. Plan ahead.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
