Inevitably, as we compare this past year that’s just been with the year that we’re hoping lies ahead, there are some things that we’d hope would turn out differently this coming year … better … blessed.

So, what are those things in your life? What are the blessings that you wish would come your way? There’ll inevitably be one or two right up there at the top of your list.

Perhaps you’d like things to go just a bit better in your work, in your finances, in your marriage, in your kids’ lives, in … well, the list goes on, right? So we tend to focus on those one or two blessings that still haven’t dropped into our lives almost as though nothing else matters.

That’s all pretty normal, especially at this time of year when we’re reassessing our lives and hoping for a better future. Well and good, but the risk here is that by focussing on what we don’t yet have, we can completely lose sight of all that we do have.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (NRSV)The truth is that in Christ, God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. He’s been to the slave market of our sin and purchased us back, redeemed us, through the blood of Jesus. He’s forgiven us because Christ paid the price. He’s put His Spirit in us and set us on the path to an eternity in His presence.

The truth is that in Christ, God has already blessed our socks off – yours and mine. Never ever forget that.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
