Ephesians 4:26,27,30 “When you are angry, don’t let that anger make you sin,” and don’t stay angry all day. Don’t give the devil a way to defeat you … And don’t make the Holy Spirit sad. God gave you his Spirit as proof that you belong to him and that he will keep you safe until the day he makes you free.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Oh, that’s just a small sin. God won’t care. He probably won’t even notice”? Ever thought like that? Well, let me be blunt. That’s completely delusional.

Our natural tendency is to work against the Holy Spirit in our lives. And that work of ours, is what God calls … sin.

We want to do things our way, and invariably our way involves what’s good for us – numero uno. It involves selfishness, anger, intolerance, impatience, sexual immorality, whatever makes us feel good at the time.

And so we carry on as though somehow, there’s such a thing as a “small sin”. We rationalise away our bad behaviour away. We point the finger at others, but our own anger, our own bad behaviour, no, no, God won’t mind. He knows what I’m like.

So we sweep it under the carpet hoping He won’t notice. But He does notice and that’s exactly how to grieve the Holy Spirit, God Himself in us.

Let’s just stop and get a grip on that reality. The Spirit of the Living God dwells in each person who believes in Jesus to keep us safe and as proof that we belong to Him. God Himself, the one who sent Jesus to die for us, dwells in us by His Spirit.

That truth is meant to keep us from keeping on sinning. Get a revelation: don’t grieve the Spirit.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
