None of us likes to feel judged. You don’t, I don’t. Judgement speaks of the fact that something about who we are, what we’re doing, might be wrong. And that, after all, is what God is all about, isn’t it? Judgement.

We all know, to a greater or lesser extent, that God is a God of judgement. That one day there will be a day of reckoning. So, here’s how I used to figure it:

If God does exist, if He is who He says He is – well I’m in serious trouble! The way I’ve been living my life … one day, I’m going to have a problem.

So what I did, was I swept it under the carpet. The problem is that when you do that, all you get is a lump under the carpet. It doesn’t actually solve anything.

Then, one day, I read this:

John 3:17 God sent his Son into the world. He did not send him to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.

I know to some, it might be blindingly, glimpsingly obvious, but in our misinformed expectations of Jesus, it’s easy to get the wrong idea. Yes, Jesus was tough on sin. He railed against hypocrisy and a lack of faith.

But He came to save us. That’s the bottom line. He came to save you!

Father God, I’m sorry for all the things I’ve done wrong. Really sorry. What was I thinking? Will you forgive me – through Jesus. He died for me, right? Forgive me. I want to give my life to you. Everything I am. Everything I have. Every hope and every dream I give to you. Please take me as I am. Please give me a new life. An eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Make no mistake, Jesus didn’t come to judge you. He came to save you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
