1 Timothy 4:7-8 People tell silly stories that don’t agree with God’s truth. Don’t follow what these stories teach. But teach yourself to be devoted to God. Training your body helps you in some ways. But devotion to God helps you in every way. It brings you blessings in this life and in the future life too.

Every family has it’s – what shall we call them – “issues”, doesn’t it? And in trying to deal with those issues, what we really want to do is to blame the other members of our family, rather than take responsibility for our own part in those … “issues”. It’s true, isn’t it?!

We know that this whole idea of family was God’s plan right from the very beginning, right? We know that; but I tell you, doing family, being family, can be so incredibly tough because … shock, horror … families – yours and mine – are made up of imperfect people.

That’s the problem with families. If those imperfect people would just go away, then our families would be perfect, right? But the truth is that if all those imperfect people in our family went away (a) we’d be alone and (b) we’d still be just as imperfect as the rest of them.

The simple reality is, as unpopular as this is in these politically correct days in which we live, that sin ruins families. It does. No, not incompatibility, or work or life’s pressures. That’s all a cop out. That’s blaming someone else.

No, it’s our sin that ruins our families, plain and simple.

Do you want to save your family? Do you want peace in your home? Then deal with your sin. You, by and large, can’t deal with theirs – but you can deal with yours. Here’s the bottom line: repent. Stop sinning. Live a godly life and just see how that changes things in your family.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
