Romans 13:9,10 The law says, “You must not commit adultery, you must not murder anyone, you must not steal, you must not want what belongs to someone else.” All these commands and all other commands are really only one rule: “Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.”

These days, the line between right and wrong seems to be becoming much wider and much greyer. In fact, it’s easy to look at something and really not know any more whether it’s right … or wrong.

It’s true, isn’t it? People want to blur the line between right and wrong. It used to be black and white, but these days it’s one big mass of grey with a smidgeon of black out there somewhere, and a smidgeon of white at the other end.

All those old-fashioned rules from God upon which our legal system was founded (at least for those of us who live in countries with Judeo-Christian roots) … poof, out the window! Of course, this is nothing new. Morals, ethics, behaviour have all been in a state of flux as long as sinners like you and me have walked the earth.

These days though, it’s so much more complicated. You have to be so careful, it seems, not to offend anyone with your particular brand of right and wrong. But actually, it’s really not that complicated. Truly, it isn’t.

Romans 13:9,10 The law says, “You must not commit adultery, you must not murder anyone, you must not steal, you must not want what belongs to someone else.” All these commands and all other commands are really only one rule: “Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.”

Yep, there are rules and sometimes people want to change them, move them a little to the left or a little to the right, or up a bit, down a bit. And yes, you and I disagree with where people put them – sometimes passionately. But when all is said and done, it’s pretty simple really:

Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself … even when you disagree with them. Passionately.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
