James 4:13-15 Some of you say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money.” Listen, think about this: You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. So you should say, “If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that.”

What are the things that you depend on in life? The things that you assume will still be here in five years’ time? Your home? Your job? Even your marriage? We behave as though those things will always be, but the truth is that what’s here today can be gone tomorrow.

When I was a lad, mostly only the men went out to work while the women stayed home to manage the house and bring up the children. And the holy grail for a man was to have a stable job to bring in a reliable pay cheque to feed the family and pay the bills. My dad only worked for one company for his entire working life. How the world’s changed eh? These days people seem to change jobs about as frequently as the rest of us change our socks.

But still, we all yearn for security, stability. People invest their all in their careers, only to be made redundant when there’s a downturn in the economy.

How much stock do you put in your job? How much do you cling to your career?

James 4:13-15 Some of you say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money.” Listen, think about this: You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. So you should say, “If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that.”

All these things that we think are rock-solid secure, in reality, are as fleeting as a mist. Don’t put too much trust in them, because what’s here today, no matter how secure it may seem, can be gone tomorrow.

The only thing that’s one hundred percent secure is Jesus. That’s it. So, put your trust in Him and Him alone.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
