Isaiah 43:18 … don't remember what happened in the beginning. Don't think about what happened a long time ago …

The past is the past, we know that. But it can be difficult to let go of the past, because all too often, it has a vice-like grip over our mind.

Might I ask you today, what is the one thing in your past, that, more than any other, hurt you, damaged you, scarred you?

When you think about it, there’s nothing wrong with scars. Scars speak of hurt but also of healing. Even Jesus had scars. He still does. But for some, the healing hasn’t taken place yet. Where there should be a scar, there remains an open wound. Where there should be peace, the constant reliving of that past trauma robs you of the abundant life that Jesus came to bring.

The past can be like that.

At a time when Israel was coming toward the end of seventy years of punishment for their rebellion against God, when all they could remember was their slavery in Babylon, rather than their freedom in Jerusalem … this is what God said to them:

Isaiah 43:18 … don’t remember what happened in the beginning. Don’t think about what happened a long time ago …

And honestly, if the past is still eating away at you, with all my heart, I believe that that’s precisely what God is saying to you today too.

It’s New Year’s Eve. We’re about to step out of this year, into the next. Whatever pain you may still be feeling in your heart, whatever trauma you may still be reliving over and over in your mind, it’s time to let go.

Not because I say so, but because there is power in the Word to set you free.

Don’t remember what happened in the beginning. Don’t think about what happened a long time ago

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
