Isaiah 55:10,11 Rain and snow fall from the sky and don’t return until they have watered the ground. Then the ground causes the plants to sprout and grow, and they produce seeds for the farmer and food for people to eat. In the same way, my words leave my mouth, and they don’t come back without results. My words make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do.

It staggers me the extent to which God’s people have forsaken His Word. God is speaking, but so many of His people have stopped listening. How many of His blessings and plans go wanting in these people’s lives, simply because they’ve stopped listening to God.

How many times have you felt that you’ve had to drag yourself over to read the Bible? It starts feeling like an onerous task; a burden; a chore … and so many people just give up. In fact it’s amazing how many Christians studiously avoid their Bibles on a daily basis.

Back in the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament, God paints a picture of His Word. It’s like one of those beautiful rain showers that brings fresh new life and causes seeds to sprout and flowers to bloom. It’s a picture of life – rich, abundant life. Here it is:

Isaiah 55:10,11 Rain and snow fall from the sky and don’t return until they have watered the ground. Then the ground causes the plants to sprout and grow, and they produce seeds for the farmer and food for people to eat. In the same way, my words leave my mouth, and they don’t come back without results. My words make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do.

Just as the rain and the snow achieve their purpose of bringing life, so when God’s Word goes forth, it accomplishes that which He purposed it for; it succeeds in the thing for which He sent it.

Imagine if that life-giving rain shower happened in your life every day. Every day! Just imagine how different would your life be; how abundant would your life be then. What purposes would God reveal to you then? What plans would He achieve through you then?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
