Galatians 5:13,14 My brothers and sisters, God chose you to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful selves. Instead, serve each other with love. The whole law is made complete in this one command: “Love your neighbour the same as you love yourself.”

Good customer service is one of those things that in this day and age seems to be harder and harder to come across. We all want good service, although when the shoe’s on the other foot, how good are we at serving others?

We each experience “customer service” pretty much each and every day – at the bank, at the supermarket, taxi drivers, the inevitable call-centre operator, on and on it goes.

I wonder though, of all the service that you’ve been on the receiving end of, how much of it was really good service? Just think over this past week; of all the customer service interactions that you experienced, how many of them really stand out for the right reasons?

Not too many I’d wager. In fact, when we’re on the receiving end of really good customer service, it almost comes as a shock; that salesperson from the department store who actually followed up and called back just as she’d promised, that plumber who actually arrived on time, did a great job at a reasonable price and even cleaned up the mess that he’d made. It doesn’t happen all too often.

From our own experience, you and I know that good service speaks powerfully into other people’s lives. So here’s a thought:

So you and I – should we claim to believe in Jesus, should we label ourselves by His name as Christians … how we serve others says everything to them about who this Jesus claims to be.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
