Acts 1:8 But the Holy Spirit will come on you and give you power. You will be my witnesses. You will tell people everywhere about me—in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.

For much of my life, I knew pretty much that I was never going to have an impact in other people’s lives. So I set about making my own life as comfortable as possible. That’s just what we do, right?

The world is so big and you and I … well, we’re so small, which is why we so often feel completely powerless to change things.

There are so many problems in this world, so many people in need, so much conflict. I can’t possibly make a difference. I can’t possibly have an impact. So instead, we take a placebo. We substitute some insignificant choice for the real thing – I’ll paint my nails a different colour, I’ll … I’ll buy a new car. Good. There you go!

And so we just bury ourselves in the day-to-day minutia, without ever realising the potential God wove into our DNA.

Just before He ascended into Heaven, Jesus said this to His disciples – these hapless, uneducated men upon whom the whole future of the Jesus-movement for millennia to come would depend:

Acts 1:8 But the Holy Spirit will come on you and give you power. You will be my witnesses. You will tell people everywhere about me—in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.

And that’s exactly what happened. They did amazing things over the next half century or so. Through them the church was born. Through them, when you think about it, you and I here in the twenty-first century, two millennia on, have come to know this amazing Jesus. Through them, you and I have the gift of eternal life.

No, on our own, you and I can’t change the world. But when the Holy Spirit gets a hold of us, when He fills us with His power, watch out!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Thank you for the message Pastor Berni, I agree, we need the power of the Holy Spirit to make an impact in the lives of people around us and we can do amazing things for Jesus.

May the Lord bless your ministry more.
