Proverbs 1:32-33 Fools die because they refuse to follow wisdom. They are content to follow their foolish ways, and that will destroy them. But those who listen to me will live in safety and comfort. They will have nothing to fear.

People are always looking to benefit, to get more, to make a quick buck, to get a return on their investment. And yet, all too often, we ignore the one investment that pays the best dividends.

Have you ever wondered why people make investments? Why do they set aside some of their wealth to buy shares or real estate? After all, it’s money that they could have spent end enjoyed now, yet they’ve denied themselves in order to make an investment. Why?

Because they want a return on that investment. They want to grow their wealth. That’s what investing is all about, getting a return. But when the economy heads south, so, typically, does the return. What we need then, is an investment that pays dividends during the bad times as well as the good.

King Solomon, one of the wisest men ever to walk the planet, wrote the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament as a collection of wisdom in his old age, to pass onto his sons.

And right up there in Chapter 1, he tells them about such an investment. What is it? Wisdom. And he draws a sharp contrast between those who’ll listen to and receive God’s wisdom and those who won’t.

Proverbs 1:32-33 Fools die because they refuse to follow wisdom. They are content to follow their foolish ways, and that will destroy them. But those who listen to me will live in safety and comfort. They will have nothing to fear.

God’s wisdom isn’t always convenient. It isn’t always comfortable. Love your enemy … turn the other cheek … go the extra mile …

And yet, time and time again, those who receive God’s wisdom into their hearts manage to avoid calamities. And even when disaster does strike … they live in safety … they have nothing to fear.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
