Seed Time and Harvest

Have you ever found yourself becoming just a tad impatient with God? You keep on doing good, doing good, doing good … but your return, your blessing, your harvest … well, it just never quite seems to come.

Let’s face it, we all want to get the most out of life; to reap a harvest if you will.

So we sow a seed – it’s a real sacrifice. Let’s say it’s as simple as forgiving someone when we don’t feel like forgiving them, or helping someone when we don’t feel like helping them.

And from there on, here’s how our thinking tends to go: Well, I’ve done something good. I’ve sown a seed. Okay then, what do I get out of it? Where’s my harvest? Come on, what about me?

To be sure, God is very much into seed time and harvest. But there’s something that comes between the sowing and the reaping … and that something is time. A funny thing, time – it seems to pass ever so slowly when we’re expecting a return on our investment. And so we become impatient … and you know what that leads to. We want to start behaving badly, acting up, demanding our return from God.

It’s that very tendency that this particular verse speaks into so powerfully:

Galatians 6:9 We must not get tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up.

So God’s promise is that if we don’t grow tired of just doing good stuff while we wait, if we don’t give up, then we will reap His harvest.

When? Well, there’s only one time for reaping a harvest. Just one. It’s called harvest time. And that happens in God’s time, when He chooses.

In the meantime, don’t grow tired of doing good.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
