One of the incredibly inconvenient things about God is that His ways aren’t our ways, and one of the ways that tends to play itself out in our lives is that sometimes He calls us to do something that, from a human standpoint, is simply nuts!

When he built the ark on a mountainside, people laughed at crazy old Noah. When Jesus hung there on the cross, people must have wondered why He hadn’t remained safely tucked away in that carpenter’s shop in Nazareth.

When Paul gave up his life of privilege as a “Pharisee amongst Pharisees” and a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling religious body in Jerusalem, for life as an outcast and ultimately a dungeon in order to preach Christ, people must have thought him pretty crazy, too.

Time and time again, God calls people – people like you and me – out of our comfort zone to do things that no human being would ever call us to do. We think of it as “risk-taking” and it’s at that point that the fear sets in.

Proverbs 29:25 Fear can be a trap, but if you trust in the LORD, you will be safe.

Of course, fear is a natural emotion designed to protect us. But it can also immobilise us, keeping us from fulfilling God’s plans and purposes for our lives. In other words, fear can be a trap, a snare.

But if you trust in the Lord (what a sharp contrast to the snare of fear) you will be safe.

So, by all means take time to discern God’s will, by all means pray over it, and consult with trusted advisers, but when you know that God is calling you step out boldly, because He is with you every step of the way. You see, when you trust in God, your step of faith is no risk at all.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
