John 7:37,38 The last day of the festival came. It was the most important day. On that day Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink. If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.”

As someone who believes in Jesus, there’s nothing worse than when we’re dry on the inside. When somehow that genuineness and spontaneity in our relationship with Jesus seems to have evaporated.

The other morning I made myself a cup of tea, but I spilled some of it on the kitchen bench, you know, jiggling the tea bag.

So I grabbed the sponge from the sink but it had dried out overnight. Still, I tried to wipe up the spilled tea with it. The result? Well, all it did was to smear the tea across the bench top because the dry sponge couldn’t soak up the spilled tea. It wasn’t until I wet the sponge that I could wipe up the spill.

Sometimes, we’re a bit like that dry sponge. Something’s missing. Somehow, things just aren’t flowing the way they should. You know when you try doing things that you know you’re good at, but they somehow turn out a mess? Have you ever had that? It’s because there’s something missing.

John 7:37,38 The last day of the festival came. It was the most important day. On that day Jesus stood up and said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty may come to me and drink. If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.”

There it is. Before the Spirit can pour out of you, He has to pour into you. Before you can be all that God made you to be and do all that He created you to do, first you have to drink deep. First you need to go to Jesus and be filled with the Spirit.

Then the rivers of living water will pour out from you; when you’re drenched and overflowing.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
