Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest. Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light.

If you’re anything like most people, then there’s every likelihood that you feel tired. Constantly tired. What’s the answer? What’s the solution?

The more you look around, the more you see people who are chronically tired and exhausted. You ask someone, “So, how are you going?” and the most common response is, “Busy, busy!”

Now, technology is supposed to make our lives easier, and sure, in many ways it does. But it also removes the quiet times out of our lives. The inbuilt delay of say, walking to school, rather than being driven by a parent who’s franticly trying to get to work on time. The respite of half an hour on the bus with nothing to do, instead of checking emails, and darting here, there and everywhere around the globe on your smartphone.

As a result, our health and wellbeing suffer, our relationships suffer, we suffer, our family suffers, all because we’re busy, tired and exhausted.

It’s easy to imagine, somehow, that this is something new. But tiredness, that deep, exhausting kind of tiredness, has been around for a very long time – at least since the first century. Jesus said to people …

Look, it doesn’t matter who you are, where we live, how much you earn, we all need rest – deep rest – the sort of rest that Jesus is offering.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
