Luke 12:54-56 Then Jesus said to the people, "When you see clouds growing bigger in the west, you say, 'A rainstorm is coming.' And soon it begins to rain. When you feel the wind begin to blow from the south, you say, 'It will be a hot day.' And you are right. You hypocrites! You can understand the weather. Why don't you understand what is happening now?

Have you ever found yourself blundering along through life, and then, WHACK! Something hits you out of the blue. You know you should have seen it coming, but you just didn’t read the signs.

We live in a world that’s full of signs: on the road, in the supermarket, on the fire escape stairs. It seems that wherever we go, there are signs – everywhere!

I regularly catch the train to Town Hall station on the underground to get to the office. The problem is, it’s so easy to become disoriented when you’re underground. It depends on which escalator you hop onto from the train platform, as to which direction you’re facing when you get to the top. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve wandered around this underground station, disoriented, to find the stairs that’ll take me up to our office.

Then one day – shock, surprise – I looked up and discovered that there are actually signs with arrows hanging off the ceiling. I’ve been doing this for years mind you but I’d never noticed the signs. You know what they say – I may not be very smart, but I can lift heavy things.

Luke 12:54-56 Then Jesus said to the people, “When you see clouds growing bigger in the west, you say, ‘A rainstorm is coming.’ And soon it begins to rain. When you feel the wind begin to blow from the south, you say, ‘It will be a hot day.’ And you are right. You hypocrites! You can understand the weather. Why don’t you understand what is happening now?

As Jesus points out here, sometimes, we miss the blindingly, glimpsingly obvious. He was the sign of the times. He still is. The Son of God, right under our noses. But how many people walk around, disoriented, and miss the blindingly, glimpsingly obvious?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
