The world we live in today has changed so much from even twenty years ago – technology, globalisation, attitudes, morality … the way we work, how we’re entertained. Yep, it’s a very different world.

The 1970’s was the decade that I spent in high school and at university. And honestly, it doesn’t seem all that long ago. So it’s pretty frightening to realise that 1972 is as far in the past as 2072 is into the future. Yikes!!

I saw an old photo recently of the main street of my hometown back in the 70’s. The cars and buses looked positively ancient. The way people were dressed, their hairstyles, were so different to today. It was a real shock. Surely … it wasn’t all that long ago!

That photo was like a wakeup call, and it reminded me of just how much our attitudes have changed, particularly toward God, particularly toward what He says through His Word about what’s right and what’s wrong. Society has departed so far from those unchanging truths. And, quite honestly, so has much of the church – both collectively and individually. So perhaps it’s time for a bit of a wakeup call.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (ESV)

All those other things I was describing earlier … they’re like the flowers and the grass. Fashions, attitudes, morality will change. Technology … well, who knows what that’ll even look like in just five years’ time.

So don’t allow the things you can see and touch and feel cause you to forget what God’s said – because although the grass withers and the flowers fade, the Word of God will stand forever.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
