1 Corinthians 6:18-20 So run away from sexual sin. It involves the body in a way that no other sin does. So if you commit sexual sin, you are sinning against your own body. You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don't own yourselves. God paid a very high price to make you his. So honour God with your body.

It’s easy to over spiritualise this whole Christianity thing. Look, laying hold of the spiritual dimension is a good thing, but let’s not forget the physical side. How you treat your body, that also matters to God.

The other day, I saw a man in his early sixties holding one of those large envelopes from an X-Ray clinic. He was hugely overweight and smoking a cigarette. Now I’m no doctor, but it seems to me that they can take as many X-rays as they like, it’s not going to make any difference.

What we do with our bodies, matters. This guy, let’s call it for what it is here, was abusing his body and no doubt wondering why he was sick.

The body that God’s given each one of us is an utterly amazing instrument and it’s the only one we’re ever going to get on this earth. But there’s even more to it than that.

If you believe in Jesus, your body is the place where His Spirit dwells. Think about that for a moment. So whether it’s what you eat or drink, your sexuality, whether or not you exercise, whether you get enough sleep or not – how you use your body matters to God.

He went to a lot of trouble in the design and manufacture. He chooses to dwell in us by His Spirit. So He expects us to look after it.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
