Colossians 2:15 He defeated the rulers and powers of the spiritual world. With the cross he won the victory over them and led them away, as defeated and powerless prisoners for the whole world to see.

Victory and defeat are complete opposites. They lie at the complete opposite ends of human experience. And yet, there are times when they come together and those times, well those times are absolutely incredible.

From a very young age, we’re taught that winning is good and losing is bad. You and I don’t have to think about that proposition too much, to come to the conclusion that it’s true.

For two small countries in the world, today is a very special day. A day when they remember a terrible loss that forged an unbreakable relationship between them, that spans a great ocean. Those two small countries are Australia and New Zealand. Today is ANZAC day. It’s the day when we remember the great courage of the Australia New Zealand Army Corps in the face of terrible adversity and defeat on the beaches of Gallipoli in Turkey, during WWI.

Together, we suffered 36,141 casualties, all because the generals landed our forces on the wrong beach. Can you believe that?

And yet from that great defeat has grown a bond of friendship across the Tasman Sea that very few countries ever share. It’s an incredible friendship, forged as it was, in the fires of death and mayhem.

What’s my point? Well, it’s this: that no matter how terrible a defeat we may have suffered in this life, great things can come out of it. In fact, more often than not, with a bit of faith, with a glimmer of hope, the greatest defeats, can turn into the greatest victories.

Colossians 2:15 He defeated the rulers and powers of the spiritual world. With the cross he won the victory over them and led them away, as defeated and powerless prisoners for the whole world to see.

Victory out of defeat.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
