Without a doubt, it’s nice to receive a pat on the back for a job well done. We all love that because just a bit of recognition is a good reward. The problem is though, that not every job well done seems to get a reward.

Have you ever done a really good job at something and rather than thank you or acknowledge you, people come against you as though somehow you’re a criminal?

It happens all the time. Whether they’re jealous or having a bad day or whether perhaps they’re just downright nasty individuals, many a good job doesn’t only go unrewarded … it all too often draws criticism and anger.

Of course, there’s nothing new in any of that. That’s exactly what happened to Jesus. Healer, preacher, lover of ordinary men and women with desperate needs, caller out of the hypocrisy of the religious leaders … hey, at the end of the day, they nailed Him to a cross.

So how do you deal with that? How do you get up the next day, put a smile on your face, get back into the fray, and put in another day of excellence?

Colossians 3:24 Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, who will give you what he promised his people. Yes, you are serving Christ. He is your real Master.

Yep, some days your great work will go unrewarded. Some days your good intentions will be misconstrued. Some days your excellence will draw fire rather than praise. But all the time, the Lord is watching. And just at the right time, you will receive your reward from Him – a reward that’s greater than anything this world has to offer.

So keep on with your excellence. Keep on with your goodness.

Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, who will give you what he promised his people.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
