John 6:66-69 After Jesus said these things, many of his followers left and stopped following him. Jesus asked the twelve apostles, "Do you want to leave too?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, where would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe in you. We know that you are the Holy One from God."

When you hear that name “Jesus” what images does it conjure up in your mind? What does brand Jesus mean to you?

One of the things that God’s blessed us with is an imagination. Take Jesus for instance. How easy is it to reimagine Him into being who we want Him to be; to remake Him into our image? Believing in that Jesus, well, that’s pretty easy.

But believing in who Jesus really is, in the Jesus of the Bible, that’s a whole different thing, because that Jesus says and does things that’ll offend us. He puts His finger on our hardness of heart, or our selfishness or whatever, and that makes us squirm.

Of course, there’s nothing new in that. It was like that, from the very beginning.

John 6:66-69 After Jesus said these things, many of his followers left and stopped following him. Jesus asked the twelve apostles, “Do you want to leave too?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, where would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe in you. We know that you are the Holy One from God.”

Jesus isn’t about to water down the truth. He died on that Cross so that you and I could be forgiven. He rose again so that you and I could have a new life. He takes our wellbeing incredibly seriously. And sometimes, to bring us to our senses, He’s going to get in our face. After all, the truth is confronting when you’re hell-bent on hanging onto your sin.

So, do you want to leave too? Where would you go?

His Word, His truth, is the gift of eternal life. In the end, dealing with our sin His way, is absolutely worth it.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

I so enjoy watching/listening to Berni’s talks each day either on Shine tv NZ or online. I really appreciate the balanced teaching and the encouraging yet challenging nature of his talks. I’ve been a Christian for 43 years and know the scriptures well, taking the time to do my quiet time in the morning before work, so it’s wonderful to receive God’s Word fresh each day, Spirit-breathed and in bite-sized challenging pieces at the end of each day.
Thank you Berni, your ministry is so appreciated.
Kind regards Di
