Romans 8:15-17 The true children of God are those who let God's Spirit lead them. The Spirit that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God's chosen children. And with that Spirit we cry out, "Abba, Father."

I wonder, as you live your life here on this earth, with all its ups and downs, how much do you think about the inheritance that’s waiting for you, in Heaven? How much?

When we put our faith in Jesus, God becomes … our Father. I love it! Jesus called Him “Abba”, which literally means “Dad”. So, not just God the distant, aloof, disciplinarian Father, but God the loving, kind, generous Dad. And as fathers do, God the Dad has given us an inheritance, because as His children, we are His heirs, His beneficiaries.

In fact, as the Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Romans – we’re co-heirs with Christ.

Romans 8:15-17 The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them. The Spirit that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again and causes us to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us God’s chosen children. And with that Spirit we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

And the Spirit himself speaks to our spirits and makes us sure that we are God’s children. If we are God’s children, we will get the blessings God has for his people. He will give us all that he has given Christ. But we must suffer like Christ suffered. Then we will be able to share his glory.

Now just stop and let that sink in for a moment. He will give us all that he has given Christ. So, we are joint-heirs with Jesus. We get what Jesus gets.

It’s so easy for us to get all bound up in the here and now. But my hunch is that it doesn’t matter how much of God’s blessing we experience here on this earth … it’ll be nothing, nothing compared to that eternal inheritance. Nothing …

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
