Family Tip Number 5
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.
Now over the last little while, I’ve been sharing some tips on building a godly family from a friend of mine in America – Mark who with his wife has 9 nine children. Maybe you’ve heard some of those. Talking about Jesus, living out a godly life for them to learn from, relying on God’s grace.
And maybe you’ve thought – nah, the kids would never go for that.
So I thought, I should ask their children what they thought. What do you really like about being part of a godly family?
Here are some of the things the kids gave me:
They all loved being part of a large family. The eight year old, he really enjoyed their morning Bible readings together. The 17 year old really enjoyed going to church together. They enjoyed having learned to forgive one another. And their family prayer – that’s another thing they enjoyed.
So often, we imagine that kids would never go for this. That they’d never want to spend time with their parents, growing in their relationship with Jesus. We can’t imagine it.
Hmm. Maybe we should think again …
