2 Timothy 1:9 God saved us and chose us to be his holy people, but not because of anything we ourselves did. God saved us and made us his people because that was what he wanted and because of his grace. That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began.

Maybe that’s why so many love to celebrate the wins of their favourite sporting teams. Most of the time, that’s about the only good news we’re going to get.
Of course, teams and individuals only win when they train hard and beat their opponents. And we enjoy the tension. We ride the ups and downs with whomever we support and we call it … entertainment.
But that competitive mindset is something that’s been dropped on our heads. We want to win; we want to succeed at whatever it is we’ve turned our hand to. And for me at least, as someone who’s naturally driven, who for many years fell into the trap of living out life as a competition, it made the idea that God would just accept me as I was almost impossible to come to terms with.
Because deep down, I knew that I’d made so many mistakes. Hopefully I’m making fewer these days, but we all still fall short on a regular basis, right? Which brings me to a bit of good news:
2 Timothy 1:9 God saved us and chose us to be his holy people, but not because of anything we ourselves did. God saved us and made us his people because that was what he wanted and because of his grace. That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began.
Your relationship with God isn’t about stand and deliver. It’s not about beating the opposition. It’s not about performing to His impossible standard. It’s all about His grace because, friend, Jesus has paid the price of all your shortcomings … and for mine.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
