Download audio fileFor many, the whole notion of “God” can seem ephemeral. Perhaps you think about Him every now and then, sneak the occasional short prayer … but amidst the cut and thrust of life, for many, that’s about it. How about you?
The problem with getting to know God, whoever He may be, is that you can’t see Him. You can’t sit down for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee in the same tangible, physical way that you can with a friend.
No one’s ever seen God, so how can you dedicate your life to Him? How can you even believe what He says?
John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known. (NRSV)
What’s God saying here, through one of Jesus’ own disciples, John? Well, quite simply He’s acknowledging our problem. No one has ever seen God … except “God the only Son” … except Jesus Himself.
And so God sends Jesus to become a man – just what we celebrated a couple of days ago at Christmas – this Jesus, who has seen God, who is God, who is close to the Father’s heart in order to (?) … make God known to us.
Do you want to know what God’s like; how He thinks, how He reacts, what gets Him excited, what makes Him angry, how powerful He is, how kind and loving He is? Just look at Jesus who …
…is God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
