Genesis 3:16,17 Then God said to Eve, “I will cause you to have much trouble when you are pregnant. And when you give birth to children, you will have much pain. You will want your husband very much, but he will rule over you.” Then God said to Adam, “I commanded you not to eat from that tree. But you listened to your wife and ate from it. Have you ever thought to yourself, “Surely, it should be easier than this!”? But for some reason, your family has troubles that other people’s families don’t seem to have.
On holidays recently, we met a lovely couple who seemed to have it all – retired, well off, a beautiful home on an acreage out of town, happily married … the lot.
And yet behind the façade of their apparently idyllic lives lay some very significant issue with their adult children which just made me realise, yet again, that there’s no such thing as the perfect family. And there’s a reason for that:
Genesis 3:16,17 Then God said to Eve, “I will cause you to have much trouble when you are pregnant. And when you give birth to children, you will have much pain. You will want your husband very much, but he will rule over you.” Then God said to Adam, “I commanded you not to eat from that tree. But you listened to your wife and ate from it. So I will curse the ground because of you. You will have to work hard all your life for the food the ground produces.
We live in a fallen world, a sinful world. A world of pressures. A world of imperfect people. So, no, it’s not just your family. Every family has issues. Every family has its struggles. But remember this, God loves every family, your family … beyond words.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
