Download audio fileWe each have triggers that’ll set us off quicker than just about anything – even the mild-mannered and even-tempered among us. What are they for you?
Personally, I have two. The first is people wasting my time. As a highly driven, outcome-oriented individual, I hate wasting so much as a minute. So when someone else wastes my time, watch out!
The second is people doing the wrong thing; not using their indicator before making a left turn; leaving their shopping trolley in the middle of the carpark instead of returning it. Really?!
What sets you off? And … question … will you continue allowing those triggers to drive you into behaviour that you’ll later regret, or will you do something about them?
We’re chatting this week about living your best life, based on this godly piece of wisdom:
2 Peter 1:3,5-6 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God … Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control.
Self-control in those stress-trigger situations can be hard to find. But the good news? God’s already given us the power – indeed everything we need to live our lives devoted to Him. And in truth, self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Do you, like the rest of us, find self-control difficult? Good. Ask God for some and He’ll give it to you abundantly. Because learning to exercise self-control truly is an essential if you’re going to live your best life.
To your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
