Isaiah 40:27-28 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. (NRSV)

Download audio fileAs we step into this new year, it’s important, wouldn’t you agree, to put the right foot forward; to step onto solid ground. After all, foundations are important, aren’t they?
Would you rather walk on solid ground or through quicksand? Whilst that’s a no-brainer, sadly, many unwittingly choose the latter. How? Well, we step into the new year trusting that all our hopes and dreams will come to fruition; that life, that people, will treat us well; that this year we’ll be healthy, wealthy and wise.
And then a tragedy, a loss, a storm comes our way. In April last year, a man went on a knife rampage in a glitzy shopping mall not 300 metres from our ministry office. He killed seven people and injured many more. No one saw that coming. No one!
Those people went shopping on a sunny Saturday afternoon …. then that! Now, none of us wishes that upon anyone, but tragedies do happen. Speaking about the suffering that had been dragging on for close on seventy years – almost three generations – God said this to His people:
Isaiah 40:27-28 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. (NRSV)
No matter how much your world is shaken, God is your solid ground. He always has been. He always will be.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
