Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (NRSV)

They say that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. You don’t have to look very far to see how true that is. And then you look at the state the world’s in and … well, absolutely!

It even happens, sadly, in churches. No wonder so many people are so turned off by religion. No wonder so many people are so suspicious of God. Who can blame them when you see the evil that’s been perpetrated down through the centuries and even today in the name of religion?

But way above the millennia of these misdeeds is a God who, out of pure love, wants to impart His boundless power upon ordinary folk like you and me. Here He is again, talking to His people who’d been suffering terribly for almost seventy years:

Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (NRSV)

Friend, with all my heart, I believe that this is for you here and now. When you feel faint and powerless, wait on God. Trust in God. Hope in God. And He will renew your strength, He will lift you up by His power … for you. Absolutely!

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
