Download audio fileTiredness is one of the greatest pandemics sweeping the globe. Sure, we’ve seen other more spectacular ones like COVID come and go, yet tiredness contributes to more deaths each year than COVID ever did.
Hundreds of millions of people around the globe right at this moment suffer from sleep disorders: Sleep apnoea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome … you name it. And we know that a lack of sleep very substantially increases your risk of contracting many life-threatening diseases including obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
Why is all this happening? Poor diet and a lack of exercise are certainly contributors. The amount of time we spend on our phones and all that blue light pollution is now recognised as a major factor as well. Stress, of course … the list goes on. And, sure, we should address those physical factors in our lives.
But you can have all those sorted and yet still not experience rest. Because as well as the physical, there are emotional and spiritual dimensions to rest. You know what it’s like … you’ve had a good night’s sleep and still you feel troubled, still you feel that things aren’t quite right. Enter … God.
Hebrews 4:1 And we still have the promise that God gave those people. That promise is that we can enter his place of rest. So we should be very careful that none of you fails to get that promise.
The reality is that you can’t be truly at rest unless you’re in a right relationship with God – because it’s only in that relationship that we can enter His place of rest.
So draw closer to Him … and you will find rest for your soul.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
