Do you, like me, sometimes struggle to remember a person’s name two minutes after you’ve met them? It’s hard, right? And yet, their name is incredibly important to them. So, right or wrong, our failure to remember it tells them how little we care.

To underscore my point, let me ask you: how do you feel when someone forgets your name? It kind of undoes any warmth they may have shown in the first place and it stops you from developing a closer relationship with them.

God is the God who created the whole universe. He’s all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving. He’s everywhere. And yet, He never forgets a name.

Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. (NIV)

How did He summon Jacob? I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

You and I, we aren’t simply numbers to Him – you, 4465970 and me, 4465971. Despite having created the whole universe, despite holding it all together minute-by-minute, despite all the things He has going on – you can’t even begin to imagine all that, right?! – despite it all … He knows your name. He never forgets it. He calls you … by name.

What does that say to you, right here, right now, about how much this amazing God cares for you?

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
