Whatever situation you and I find ourselves in at the moment, whatever circumstances confront us – good or bad – those externals will without doubt impact how we feel about life.

It goes without saying that good circumstances tend to lift our mood whilst difficult circumstances tend to dampen it. Our emotions are highly reactive to our circumstances. After all, who wants to face adversity?

That being said, adversity has a way of facing us; of crashing down on us or creeping up on us when we least expect it. Think about it. What is it in your life right now that you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself? How does it make you feel?

To some extent that up and down cycle is natural, but at the end of the day, God didn’t create us to ride through life on a rollercoaster. No one wants to live like that. So ….

Ecclesiastes 7:14 When life is good, enjoy it. But when life is hard, remember that God gives us good times and hard times. And no one knows what will happen in the future.

The truth is that God remains sovereign over every circumstance that confront us – today, tomorrow, the next day. And by all means, when life’s good, when God chooses to dish out those good times, we should enjoy them – there’s nothing wrong with that. But when times are hard, remember this: that those times too come from the hand of the Lord and He can be trusted. So the next time you’re facing hard times, you can be confident in those uncertain times because our God is worthy of your trust.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
