Download audio fileAs I step into each new year, I often wonder what lies ahead: What challenges I’ll face. How I’ll measure up – how I’ll perform so to speak. How about you?
We live in a world that values performance. Deliver and you get rewarded. Fail and you don’t. It’s a template that gets dropped on our head from a young age, only to be reinforced day after day by how the world treats us.
When was the last time you fell short of someone’s expectations? How did they react? You get the point.
And I don’t know how it is for you, but for me, even deeper down I want to live my life in a way that delights God, doing good not evil, loving people, not mistreating them. With all my heart, that’s what I want for my life in this year ahead. How about you?
But when your heart’s set on doing good, it’s easy to imagine that you have to go it alone; that God, like everyone else, expects you to stand and deliver, or else! But that’s not it at all, because He’s in this with us.
Ezekiel 11:19 I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh. (NRSV)
Out of His great love, He’s the one who gives us a change of heart, who puts His Spirit – the Holy Spirit – in us to empower us to be all that He created us to be. You don’t have to go it alone. Your greatest ally is God Himself.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
