Being part of a loving family is one of the greatest blessings in life, wouldn’t you agree? But at the same time, being part of a loving family can be hard work. There’s conflict. There’s stress. And all too often, families break down completely.

What most of us want is peace at home. When you’re out there in the world, doing what it is that you do day to day, there’s more than enough pressure, more than enough conflict, to last you a lifetime.

So when you walk back in through that front door, what you want is peace. You want to feel welcome in your own home. You want to be able to be yourself, to relax, to be at rest. We all want that, but we don’t always get it.

So today, let’s get back to basics. Let’s do a quick “family peace 101” introductory course because when it comes to doing family, being family, the so-called basics are inevitably the profound pillars upon which everything else is built.

Genesis 2:24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife. In this way two people become one.

In the minds of many these days, the whole idea of marriage has been greatly marginalised. Many see it as an irrelevant institution. But marriage was always God’s plan from the very beginning – not for everyone, but for most of us.

And the strength of the bond between husband and wife, the attention they pay one another, the respect they show each another, is the foundation of a peaceful home.

Husbands, wives, don’t neglect one another. God has made the two of you to be one. That was always His plan.

Because that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
