Have you ever pricked a balloon with a needle? One moment it’s this happy, red balloon floating through the air. The next moment, bang! And it’s this limp, lifeless bit of plastic lying on the ground.

I often think that our bad times are made all the worse, when they’ve come off the back of some very good times. When all of a sudden, our happy, red balloon of a life is pricked by a needle. Bang, from that … to this. And all it took, was the tiniest of pinpricks.

So, there you are, limp and lifeless on the floor, ruminating about what happened, why it happened, what could have been had it not happened. When was the last time your hopes and dreams were deflated like that? How did it make you feel?

The truth is, if you hang onto those feelings, they can have a terrible effect on you.

Psalm 73:21,22 When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. (ESV)

If you keep wallowing in the disappointment of what just happened, in your fall from there to here as a result of that pinprick to your heart, your soul becomes embittered. And, let’s be honest, when we’re in that state we start to behave badly, very badly – in an ignorant, brutish, beastly way.

Don’t let the bad things that happen to you along the way, make you bitter. It’s just, not, worth it!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
